Excellence in Education, as an approved service provider for Trinity College London, has a range of courses either of 15 hours over 3 weeks (4 weekends), or 30 hours over 5 weeks (6 weekends). These can include 'best practice' teaching courses, or courses designed to help teachers better understand the formats of examinations that are offered by Trinity College London. Below are the courses that Excellence in Education will offer during term 1 of the Academic Year 2019-2020.

    A 3 week, 15 hour, free online course, to help teachers  develop and improve their students' English language oral skills and prepare candidates for a Graded Examination in Spoken English (GESE) at grades 3, 4 and 5. Special attention is given to the 'Topic Phase ' and the Conversation Phase'. Much of the course can be done at your own pace, although there are some group activities that are best done within the same time frame. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to those who successfully complete the course.

    To apply for a place on this course you must be highly motivated and ideally have at least C1 CEFR level.     15-hour online course offering teacher support over 3 weeks to empower teachers to prepare candidates for Trinity College London's GESE Intermediate level: grades 7 (CEFR B2.1); grade 8 (CEFR B2.2); and grade 9 (CEFR B2.3). 

    This course has challenging and inspiring resources with tasks to encourage a reflective approach. Special attention will be given to the 'Interactive Phase'

    Course participants can make contributions to discussion forums, learn from colleagues and participate in activity-based learning involving the creation of tasks. Much of the course can be done at one's own pace, although there are some group activities that are best done within the same time frame.

    A 10 hour,  online course to enable students to participate in language practice activities at A2 and B1 levels with a language trainer from Trinity College London in Spain. This course will use classroom activities and resources and will include various live sessions that will be scheduled using ZOOM.

    A 3 week, 15 hour, free online course to help teachers prepare candidates for Trinity College London's GESE Initial level. This course contains new resources and new tasks with one module for each grade of GESE Initial with: challenging and inspiring resources; tasks to encourage a reflective approach; activity-based learning where participants also create classroom activities; and discussion forums for participants to share their views and learn from colleagues. There is also a section on using rhymes, songs and chants to motivate young learners. Course participants can progress through much of the course at their own pace, but will be expected to participate actively. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to those who successfully complete the course.

    3 week, 15 hour, free online course to encourage participants to reflect on their attitude and beliefs about how vocabulary is learnt and how it can be taught. Participants will look at different ways that vocabulary may be presented, practised and put to use, and will be provided with tools to prepare their own vocabulary learning activities and share teaching materials. The course includes challenging and inspiring resources; tasks to encourage a reflective approach; activity-based learning where participants also create classroom resources; and discussion forums for participants to share their views and learn from colleagues. Much of the course can be done at one's own pace, although there are some group activities that are best done within the same time frame. NB - this course is more appropriate for secondary school  teachers and above).

    A free, 30-hour online course offering teacher support over 5 weeks that covers important  aspects of teaching pronunciation to young learners of English. Participants will work on: 

    • phonemic awareness and phonics; 
    • word stress and 'weak forms';
    • Sentence stress, connected speech and linking; 
    • a focus on sounds and matters concerning accent and intelligibility; 
    • and rhymes, chants, songs and pronunciation games. 
    The course has: challenging and inspiring presentations by experts; tasks that encourage a reflective approach; discussion forums for participants to air their views and learn from colleagues; and activity-based learning involving the creation of tasks. Much of the course can be done at your own pace, although there are some group activities that are best done within the same time frame. 

    To apply for a place on this course you must be highly motivated and ideally have C1 CEFR level. Confirmation will be sent on Sunday, 23rd February.  Numbers are limited to 40 participants so please do NOT request a place if you think you may not have enough free time.

    A 3 week, 15 hour, online course over four weekends to help teachers develop how they teach listening skills and also to prepare candidates for the Independent Listening task of the Speaking and Listening Module of Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English at Foundation and ISE I levels. The main aims of this course are: 

    • to reflect on strategies involving 'Top-down and Bottom up' knowledge
    • to highlight the importance of developing 'note-taking skills'
    • to stimulate, refine and provide a variety of teaching ideas and practical tips for teachers wanting to develop how they teach listening skills and sub-skills at A2 and B1 (CEFR)
    • to familiarise participants with the format of the ISE Foundation/ISE I independent listening tasks and to encourage teachers to reflect on the skills students need to develop in order to perform well in the Independent Listening Tasks of the Speaking and Listening Module. 

    To apply for a place on this course you must be highly motivated and ideally have at least C1 CEFR level.     A 3 week, 15 hour, online course over four weekends. The overall aims of this course are to look at some of the issues that students and teachers often face when moving from a B2 level to C1. The course will:

    • examine the differences between these levels 
    • focus on language that is relevant and appropriate at C1 level
    • reflect on listening and the difficulties that students may encounter and how to overcome them
    • discuss ways to break through the ‘intermediate plateau’.

    This 15-hour course is officially recognised by the 'Department d'Educació de Catalunya' (GTAF). ("Esta actividad está reconocida por el 'Departament d'Educació' como formación permanente del profesorado"- GTAF).

    The overall aim of this course is to familiarise participants with the different ways teachers can plan lessons using the lesson frameworks that are available. The course is interactive and provides participants with the tools to reflect on:

    • how and why teachers use lesson plans, 
    • how to write lesson aims and match these to materials, 
    • how to lesson plan effectively.

    This 15-hour course is officially recognised by the 'Department d'Educació de Catalunya' (GTAF). ("Esta actividad está reconocida por el 'Departament d'Educació' como formación permanente del profesorado"- GTAF).

    A 3 week, 15 hour, free online course over 4 weekends to help teachers to understand the importance of a language rich classroom for language acquisition. The course content covers what it means to have a language rich classroom and ways that teachers can increase their own learners’ exposure to both written and oral language inside and outside the classroom. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own practices and use what they learn to enrich their own classrooms.
